What a gas furnace installation involves
We shut off gas and power, disconnect the old furnace, and pull it out along with any vent pipe or flue connector that is corroded or wrongly sized. The new furnace gets set level, tied into the supply and return plenums, connected to gas with a fresh shutoff and drip leg, vented properly, and wired to the thermostat. Condensing units also need a condensate drain with a trap. Then we fire it, check gas pressure and temperature rise, and confirm safe combustion before we leave.
What we check and install with the furnace
A furnace only performs as well as everything attached to it. We measure the return air, check duct sizing and obvious leaks, and look at whether the filter slot is big enough to breathe. We check the gas line capacity, the flue path, and combustion air in closets and attic spaces. New thermostat wiring goes in when the old wire is short on conductors. We size the furnace by BTU from the house itself, not by copying whatever number was on the old cabinet.
How we decide replacement is the right call
We repair when a repair holds. A cracked or rusted heat exchanger, a furnace that keeps locking out on safeties, or a unit with obsolete parts pushes us toward replacement. Age matters, but so does what you have already spent and how the ductwork looks. If your furnace smells of gas or a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, leave the building first, call 911 or your gas utility from outside, then call us. Otherwise we will inspect and give you both options in plain terms.

Can a new gas furnace use my existing ductwork?
Often yes, though we measure first. Undersized returns and leaking joints in attics or crawlspaces limit airflow and shorten furnace life. We tell you what needs sealing or resizing before installation rather than after.
Do I need new venting with a new furnace?
Usually. High efficiency condensing furnaces vent through PVC to the outside and need a condensate drain, so the old metal flue comes out. We confirm the vent route during the estimate visit.
How long does the installation take?
Most straight swaps take a day. Attic installs, gas line changes, new venting, or duct repairs can add a second day. We tell you which one your home is before we start.
