Top-rated independent heating and cooling across California's Central Valley and the Sierra foothills

Smart Thermostat Installation

We install smart thermostats on residential heating and cooling systems across California and Nevada, including homes with attic package units, heat pumps and standard split systems. Homeowners usually call when an old mercury or dial thermostat gives up, when a new smart unit they bought will not power on, or when they want to change the temperature from the phone before they get home. Call us with the model you have or the one you want, and we will confirm it works with your equipment before we come out.

What the job involves

We start at the equipment, not the wall. Most smart thermostats need a constant 24 volt common wire, and plenty of older homes were wired with four conductors and no C wire. We check what is behind the plate, trace the run to the air handler or package unit, and either use an unused conductor or add an adapter at the board. Then we mount the new stat level, configure it for your system type, set up the app and run a full heating and cooling cycle to confirm every stage responds.

What we check and install

We verify the system type first: single stage, two stage, heat pump with auxiliary heat, or a package unit on the roof or in the attic. That decides which thermostats will actually control your equipment. We check control voltage, the transformer, and the wiring at the board for burnt or loose terminals, because a failing thermostat is sometimes a symptom of something upstream. Once installed, we set the changeover, staging and fan behavior, label the wires, and walk you through schedules and remote access.

How we decide it is the right call

A smart thermostat is a good move when your current one is unresponsive, cycles the system oddly, or has no way to hold a schedule through a long hot stretch. It is the wrong move when the real problem is low refrigerant, a weak blower or leaking ducts, since a new stat will not fix airflow. So we test the system before we sell you anything. If the equipment needs air conditioning repair or heating repair first, we tell you that and quote it separately.

Smart Thermostat Installation — quick answers

Will a smart thermostat work with my attic package unit?

Usually yes, but it depends on staging and whether the unit has electric strip heat or a gas section. We confirm the model and wiring first, then recommend thermostats we know control that equipment correctly.

What if my house has no C wire?

That is common in older homes. We either repurpose an unused conductor in the existing run, add an adapter at the control board, or run new thermostat wire if the path allows it.

Can I install the thermostat myself and have you wire it?

Yes. Plenty of homeowners buy the unit and call us for the wiring and setup. Just hold off on pulling the old one off the wall so we can see how it was connected.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form. We ask what changed, when it started, and what the thermostat reads. That tells us whether to bring parts for a cooling fault or a heating fault.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow through the filter and coil, refrigerant pressures, and the outdoor unit. You get told what failed and why, in plain words, before anything is replaced.

  3. Step 3

    Repair and verify

We make the repair, then run the system and measure the results at the vents. If a part needs ordering, we say so and give you a realistic window instead of a vague promise.

Why homeowners call us

  • Built for real valley heatWe work in areas where afternoons sit above 110 degrees and systems run for months without a break. That shapes how we size repairs, check capacitors and contactors, and judge whether a compressor is genuinely done.
  • Attic and package unitsPlenty of homes across the region run attic air handlers or rooftop package units instead of a garage furnace and a side-yard condenser. We are used to the access, the duct runs, and the drain issues those setups bring.
  • Dust and debris we expectAg dust, cottonwood fluff and grass clippings pack condenser coils and starve a system of airflow. We clean what we find and show you the difference, rather than adding refrigerant to a unit that just could not breathe.
  • Heating too, not only ACFurnace repair, heat pump faults and no-heat calls get the same attention as summer work. Ignition problems, cracked or failing components and short cycling all get diagnosed before we recommend anything larger.
  • All major brands, gas & electricFrom Carrier and Trane to Lennox, Goodman, Rheem and Bryant, serviced independently.
  • Straight answersWhen a replacement beats a repair, we tell you, sometimes before we roll a truck.
