Top-rated independent heating and cooling across California's Central Valley and the Sierra foothills

Thermostat Installation — Book a Visit Today

We install and replace thermostats, including smart thermostats and zoning controls, for homeowners across California and Nevada. Most calls start the same way: the screen is blank, the temperature reading is off by several degrees, or a new thermostat was swapped in and now the heat runs but the cooling will not. A visit begins at the thermostat itself, then moves to the wiring at the air handler or package unit, because a thermostat can only control what it is actually connected to. We check the wire count, confirm the control board is sending power, set the equipment type correctly, and run both heating and cooling before we leave. If your system has zones, we test each damper and each zone call. Send us a photo of your current thermostat and we will tell you what fits.

Thermostat Installation — residential thermostat installation being serviced

The thermostat installation symptoms we hear most

  • The screen is completely blank Lost control power, blown low voltage fuse, or a tripped float switch
  • It says 72 but the house feels like 80 Failed temperature sensor, or a thermostat mounted on a hot wall or in direct sun
  • The AC runs and runs and never shuts off Miswired or stuck cooling relay, or a thermostat that lost its differential setting
  • I installed a smart thermostat myself and now nothing works Missing common wire, wrong equipment configuration, or a fried control board fuse
  • Upstairs bakes while downstairs freezes No zoning, a failed zone damper motor, or a zone panel that is not responding to calls

Search for it as thermostat installation or thermostat replacement and you land in the same place: one visit, one written quote.

Safe things to check first

Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.

  • 1Check the thermostat batteries if yours takes them. A weak set can blank the screen or drop calls to the equipment.
  • 2Look at the breaker panel for a tripped breaker on the air handler, furnace or outdoor unit, and reset it once.
  • 3Confirm the thermostat is set to the mode you want, with the fan on AUTO and the setpoint well past current room temperature.
  • 4Change a loaded filter and walk the house to make sure supply and return vents are open, since a starved system can shut down and look like a thermostat fault.

Thermostat Installation — quick answers

Can I keep my old thermostat wiring with a smart thermostat?

Often yes, but many older homes were wired with four or five conductors and no common wire, which most smart thermostats need for steady power. We check the wire count at both ends and add a common wire or an adapter as needed.

Will a smart thermostat work with my attic package unit?

Usually. Package units use standard low voltage control wiring, so the thermostat choice matters less than getting the equipment type set correctly. We configure it as a conventional or heat pump system and test both heating and cooling before leaving.

How long does a thermostat replacement take?

A straight swap on matching wiring is typically under an hour, including configuration and a test of both modes. Pulling a new common wire, correcting a previous miswire, or setting up zoning controls takes longer because more of the system is involved.

Do I need zoning controls or just more vents?

Zoning helps when one part of the house consistently runs hotter or colder and duct balancing has not solved it. We look at duct layout, return locations and system capacity first, because zoning a system that is already undersized creates new problems.

My new thermostat says the system is running but nothing happens. Why?

The thermostat is sending a call the equipment is not answering. That points to a blown low voltage fuse, a tripped safety switch, a failed contactor, or a wire landed on the wrong terminal. We trace the call from thermostat to board.

Should I replace the thermostat or the whole system?

A thermostat is worth replacing on its own if the equipment still heats and cools properly. If your system is short cycling, low on capacity, or failing repeatedly, a new thermostat will not fix that, and we will tell you plainly.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form. We ask what changed, when it started, and what the thermostat reads. That tells us whether to bring parts for a cooling fault or a heating fault.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow through the filter and coil, refrigerant pressures, and the outdoor unit. You get told what failed and why, in plain words, before anything is replaced.

  3. Step 3

    Repair and verify

We make the repair, then run the system and measure the results at the vents. If a part needs ordering, we say so and give you a realistic window instead of a vague promise.

Why homeowners call us

  • Built for real valley heatWe work in areas where afternoons sit above 110 degrees and systems run for months without a break. That shapes how we size repairs, check capacitors and contactors, and judge whether a compressor is genuinely done.
  • Attic and package unitsPlenty of homes across the region run attic air handlers or rooftop package units instead of a garage furnace and a side-yard condenser. We are used to the access, the duct runs, and the drain issues those setups bring.
  • Dust and debris we expectAg dust, cottonwood fluff and grass clippings pack condenser coils and starve a system of airflow. We clean what we find and show you the difference, rather than adding refrigerant to a unit that just could not breathe.
  • Heating too, not only ACFurnace repair, heat pump faults and no-heat calls get the same attention as summer work. Ignition problems, cracked or failing components and short cycling all get diagnosed before we recommend anything larger.
  • All major brands, gas & electricFrom Carrier and Trane to Lennox, Goodman, Rheem and Bryant, serviced independently.
  • Straight answersWhen a replacement beats a repair, we tell you, sometimes before we roll a truck.
